David Walter Lech is a Los Angeles based filmmaker with a diverse background as a screenwriter, cinematographer, and director. He is the screenwriter and associate director of the Hindi language horror film KAALI KHUHI, a Netflix Original film released worldwide on October 30, 2020. Directed and co-written by his wife and creative partner, Terrie Samundra, KAALI KHUHI was the #3 trending film on Netflix India upon its release, and #4 in Pakistan.

As a writing duo, Samundra and Lech have written several other feature screenplays including BETAMAX (Sundance Institute International Screenwriter’s Lab, 2013), WESTERN INTERIOR SEAWAY, WOMAN ON THE HILL, and TOWN BLOODY HALL (an adaptation of the documentary of the same name by D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus). They have also written the episodic pilots; THE BALLAD OF POOJA and THE BLOOD BELOW (Fox21 Screenwriter’s Lab Finalist).

As a cinematographer, Lech is known most notably for his work on the feature films LITTLE FEET (2013), A LOVELY DAY (2012), and THE WIND AND THE WATER (2008).

THE WIND AND THE WATER premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the World Dramatic Competition, 2008. LITTLE FEET, written and directed by American indie film hero Alexandre Rockwell, premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and won the Special Jury Prize at the 2013 Mar Del Plata International Film Festival in Argentina.

Lech is also known for his short experimental films, including AARTI, which played at several film festivals.

While DAVID WALTER LECH is his full name which he is credited by, please, call him Walter. He started going by his middle name, a long standing family name, over 20 years ago because he liked how old fashioned it sounded.
